Pole work clinic day with Millie McBride

On Saturday 29th June I attended one of the very popular pole work clinics with Millie McBride at her brand new, purpose built livery yard in Hertfordshire! The session was fully booked all day, we had groups of 2-3 riders the whole day and Millie (aka the pole pattern queen!) was able to challenge every single horse and rider combination appropriately. There was a mix of new and regular clients but I think it's fair to say that everybody left their lesson feeling accomplished and positive thanks Millie's encouraging and strategic approach.

Whilst all groups used the same pole patterns, each horse and rider came with their own goals. Some people focused purely on the trot, some combinations needed help with the canter, and others did a mix of all. Each session was tailored depending on individual needs and requirements to ensure everybody got the most from their time.

About Clements End Farm Livery Yard

Clements End Farm Livery yard is a 5 star, brand new, purpose built full livery yard in Studham, Bedfordshire. The picturesque village of Studham partially sits with the "Hundred" of Dacorum, falling within the general Hertfordshire region and so is easily accessed from the Herts area as well as the Buckinghamshire area.

The Clements End Farm build was completed in November 2023 and the beautiful courtyard is made up of 24 enormous (14x14) fully sealed rubber matted (floors and half walled), rear-windowed stables. All with automatic drinkers facing socially onto a neat and spacious grass square with a clocktower above the entrance. The square itself is neatly and securely gated, with direct access to both schools and the four fully kitted out wash bays.

There is a large hard standing car and lorry park and not one, but two 70x30m schools. One outdoor school and one indoor school complete with a viewing gallery! Most of the time when visiting Clements End, you'll find the white boards laid out ready for use. The schools are available for hire and this is also now where Millie hosts her very popular pole work clinic days.

Beyond the horsey facilities, the liveries enjoy a super clean, well organised and very secure tack and tea room with a fridge and the all important tea and coffee facilities! And lovely clean loos! Lovely loos actually - with a shower if required.

Beyond the remarkable and well-planned facilities, the whole ethos and 'feeling' of Clements End Farm feels very relaxed and very friendly. You'll always find a member of staff wondering around, the staff know the horses individually and welfare standards are paramount. Unlike Millie's little horsey kingdom, often many 'immaculate' yards look fantastic on the face, but lack the super important foundations of any business - the warmth of happy people (and horses, in this case!) who work and live there.

Hello, my name is Holly...

Welcome to my blog

I am an equine photographer based in Essex, England. I've owned and ridden horses always, and I've never known a life without them! I've started this little blog for my many ramblings. I've always liked to write, but previously had no outlet for it - now I do! I write about all my photography adventures, horses and dogs so if you like any of those things, you're in the right place! Maybe we'll even get to work together some day...
